Mauritania is a sovereign country in Northwest Africa. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Algeria, Senegal and its territory is in the Sahara. Since a large natural gas deposit off the coast in 2014, interest in Mauritanian offshore energy has increased. Three of the world’s supermajor oil and gas companies are currently exploring opportunities off the Mauritanian coast with 22 offshore blocks remaining open for negotiations.
