As International Sales and Ops Lead, Steyn spearheads commercial strategy, new business and operational excellence at Tiger Offshore Rentals within a thriving offshore market. Since joining in May 2021, Steyn has driven the expansion of the company’s rental solutions, featuring Cargo Carrying Units, pumps and fluid tanks, tailored specifically for the demands of the energy industry’s upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors in Africa.

Phillip Steyn has carved a distinguished career in the oil and gas sector, particularly in Africa, where he co-founded Rhino Resources Ltd. His leadership propelled the company to secure over 90,000 km² of exploration rights across five African countries, positioning Rhino as a major player in the industry. As Chief Operating Officer and Vice President, Steyn was pivotal in the acquisition of Block 2914A in Namibia’s Orange Basin, an area now recognized as one of the world’s premier hydrocarbon provinces. The block’s proximity to the significant Venus, Graff and Mopane discoveries in the Orange Basin suggests these could be some of the largest finds in recent history.

Steyn’s strategic acquisition of significantly prospective onshore acreage in South Africa. This area, within a proven hydrocarbon province, is likened to 20% of the entire Permian Basin in the USA, presenting unique opportunities for Helium, conventional, and unconventional oil and gas exploration. His adeptness at navigating complex regulatory, contractual, and business environments across multiple jurisdictions has been key to securing deals with favorable terms.

With over 12 years in the oil & gas industry and more than two decades in leadership roles across Africa, his expertise in international negotiations and strategic business planning is unparalleled.

Steyn’s contributions extend to industry literature, notably through a KPMG report he commissioned and supported, on the socio-economic benefits of onshore gas development in South Africa, emphasizing job creation and economic growth. Fluent in Afrikaans, English, and Kiswahili, and a member of the Association of International Energy Negotiators (AIEN), his global network enhances his effectiveness in international business. His career from safaris to leading a major oil & gas exploration company showcases a unique blend of entrepreneurial drive and conservation commitment.
